Why the joints are the problem
A sectional gutter is assembled from ten-foot pieces joined with sealant. Every one of those joints is a place where the metal expands and contracts in the heat until the seal gives up. On a Florida house that happens faster than most people expect.
A seamless run has joints only at the corners and the outlets — the places that are properly detailed anyway.
Sized for the rain we actually get
A Jacksonville afternoon thunderstorm can drop two inches in an hour. We size the gutter and the number of downspouts to the roof area feeding them, which is why we sometimes quote 6-inch gutter where another contractor quoted 5-inch. Undersized gutter does not overflow occasionally — it overflows every summer.
